Visto D7 de rendimentos passivos

Passive-income residence visa (pensions, rentals, dividends) — confirm current means threshold with AIMA / consulate.

The D7 residence visa is Portugal's route for non-EU nationals who can live on stable passive income — pensions, dividends, rental income, royalties, or similar — without needing employment in Portugal. After the consular visa, you apply to AIMA for your residence authorisation.

Who it fits

  • Retirees receiving a regular pension from abroad
  • Investors or landlords with documented passive income streams
  • People with sufficient savings or recurring income who will not work in Portugal
  • Main applicant may include eligible family members in the same visa request

Income & means

  • You must show stable, predictable passive income for at least the minimum period consulates require — confirm the current official figure on vistos.mne.gov.pt and with your consulate.
  • Additional means may be required for each dependent family member — confirm the current official figure rather than relying on outdated online estimates.
  • Bank statements, pension letters, dividend statements, or rental contracts should clearly trace income to you.
  • Savings alone may supplement income in some cases; consular practice varies — verify before filing.

Typical documents

  • Valid passport and completed visa application form
  • Proof of passive income (pension award, investment statements, lease agreements)
  • Bank statements covering the period your consulate specifies
  • Private health insurance valid in Portugal (or equivalent cover accepted by the consulate)
  • Criminal-record certificate from country of residence, apostilled/legalised when required
  • Proof of accommodation in Portugal (lease, reservation, or ownership deed)
  • NIF (Portuguese tax number) is often requested early — obtain via Finanças if possible before visa submission

Process overview

  1. Gather income evidence, insurance, and legalised civil documents.
  2. Apply for the D7 visa at the Portuguese consulate with jurisdiction over your residence.
  3. Enter Portugal within the visa validity and book an AIMA appointment for your residence card.
  4. Register your address, maintain health cover, and keep tax/social-security compliance as required.
  5. Renew through AIMA before expiry; passive-income proof must remain current.

Key legal points

  • D7 is a residence visa under Law 23/2007 — not a work permit. Local employment is not the basis of the route.
  • Minimum stay requirements apply for renewals and eventual permanent residence or citizenship — confirm current AIMA guidance.
  • Tax residency may arise if you spend more than 183 days in Portugal or have a habitual home here — consult Finanças.

How EOB helps

  • Map your income sources to consular D7 criteria before you apply
  • Coordinate NIF, apostilles, translations, and insurance in one timeline
  • Prepare the AIMA dossier for biometrics and first residence card
  • Plan family inclusion and renewal evidence from day one
