Price guide

Spain universities — simple 3-tier price guide

A student-friendly comparison of annual tuition and process costs for international students at Spanish public universities.

Reference research snapshot. Spanish public fees are often charged per ECTS and vary by autonomous community and degree. Always confirm the selected course before payment.

How to use this guide

Choose the degree level first, then the price tier. Each line shows location, approximate annual tuition, process fees, likely first-year university cost and one important note.

  • Tier 1 — Affordable: up to about €2,500 / year
  • Tier 2 — Mid-range: about €2,501 to €5,000 / year
  • Tier 3 — High-cost: above €5,000 / year

Medicine, dentistry and other health degrees can cost far more than ordinary programmes. Compare them separately.

Credits, regions and nationality — do not mix the numbers

Public universities in Spain usually publish prices per ECTS. Annual cost depends on credits enrolled, region and sometimes nationality category. Private universities and health degrees can sit far above ordinary public bands.

Living costs matter as much as tuition

Madrid and Barcelona are the most expensive student cities. Valencia, Granada, Zaragoza, Murcia and Salamanca often offer a better overall budget once rent is included.

Extra research notes

  • Andalusian public universities (e.g. Granada, Seville) often sit in competitive credit-fee bands for ordinary Grado programmes.
  • Madrid and Barcelona living costs can outweigh tuition differences — budget rent separately.
  • UC3M and UPF English/bilingual routes may cost more than Spanish-taught regional options.
  • Non-EU applicants should also budget for visa, NIE/TIE and insurance costs outside tuition.
  • Always open the university's current fee regulation (tasas / precios públicos) for the exact programme before paying.
